My baby boy.

Raleigh Family Photographer

The further along I get in this pregnancy, the more I can’t help but notice how quickly my little man is growing up.  I’m sure every mother goes through this the second time around, that feeling of having to give up one “baby” to bring another into the world.  While I know that’s not how it works and Brayden will always be my baby boy, the time of him being our “only” is coming to an end and it’s making me want to cherish every bit of him over these next couple of months.

The fact that Brayden has matured so much this year in every way possible doesn’t really help.  He is getting taller, talking so much more, playing pretend in a way I’ve never seen him do before, really listening when I talk to him and asking questions about the world.  I feel like this all happened over night!  He is becoming a little boy who is full of personality!  He is as silly as a little boy should be and makes us laugh all the time.  He is constantly going, and keeps us on our toes.  He is the sweetest little thing, saying hi to everyone and being so polite saying please and thank you.  Even when he has his bad days, he always says he’s sorry.

The one thing I am most proud of when it comes to my little man is how incredibly full of LOVE he is.  He gives the best hugs and kisses and he loves on his Mama, Dada, puppy Leo, and his little sister Peyton (in Mama’s belly) all day long.  I can tell how excited he is for his baby sister to arrive and it’s the cutest thing ever.  He always says hello, goodbye, and goodnight with big hugs and kisses.  He makes my heart burst all day long!

Things will be changing in a few months, and while this little girl is going to bring so much joy into our family, I want to make sure I remember him right now, the way he is in these last few months as a family of three.  Our baby boy who fills our hearts with so much love each and every day, and always will.

Be Spontaneous.

This past weekend my mom came down to visit and we had a blast! We were out and about all day every day.  On Easter Sunday, after Brayden hunted his eggs and found his Easter basket, we really didn’t have any other plans for the day.  It was lunch time and absolutely gorgeous outside.  Someone said “we should have planned to take a drive to the beach today”.  Almost immediately we all looked at each other and I knew we were thinking the same thing, well why not go now?  So we all packed up into the car and made the two-hour drive down to Wilmington. It was a perfect day, walking along the river, sitting outside eating a delicious seafood dinner on the water, and finally stopping by Wrightsville beach to dig our toes into the sand for the first time this year.

This is something I’ve always loved about our little family.  We’re not afraid to be spontaneous.  Mike and I find ourselves doing things like this all the time.  Whether it’s unexpectedly taking a drive down to the ocean, trying new restaurants, or deciding at the last minute to go to a concert or event, we are always looking for new and exciting ways to spend our time together.

This weekend got me thinking about how being spontaneous is so important in all aspects of our lives.  We are creatures of habit.  We build routines and stick to them, and while this is a great tool to keep us productive and on track, sometimes it can cause life to become mundane.  If you feel like you’re in a funk and just can’t get out of it, the best advice I can give you is to get out there and do something spontaneous!  It doesn’t have to be something crazy, just get yourself out of your daily routine, out of your comfort zone, and try something unexpected and exciting.  Once in a while, it’s okay to break the rules we’ve set for ourselves!  I bet you’ll find it to be an incredibly refreshing experience.

With some help, my mom was actually able to snag a semi-decent shot with my camera of Mike, Brayden and I (and my 15 week baby bump) in Wilmington this weekend.  It was nice to actually be in the picture this time! 🙂

Guess what?!

We’re having a baby!!  Baby T #2 will be arriving at the end of September and all of us are so very excited to welcome our new addition to the family.  Brayden can’t stop talking about his baby brother or sister who is in mommy’s belly!

I will be 15 weeks tomorrow and so far this pregnancy has been very different from my first.  With Brayden, I felt great throughout the whole 9 months.  This time around, baby kept me feeling pretty sick for the first few weeks (which explains why it’s been so quiet around here lately), but thankfully the second trimester has me feeling MUCH better.

So, I’m sure you’re wondering, what does this mean for all my wonderful clients?? As far as weddings go, I’ll be shooting weddings through the end of June, and then picking back up in November.  I’ll be planning to take all other types of sessions through August.  September will be on a case by case basis, depending on how I’m feeling.  Finally, I’ll be taking the month of October off and starting up again in November (maybe with some fall family mini’s?).

If you are interested in a session sometime before I go on leave, don’t hesitate to contact me ASAP!  My months of May and June are almost ALL filled up. It is never too early to book your session!

The spring is bringing some beautiful weather and I’m so excited for everything to pick up over the next few months!

For now, I’ll leave you with some adorable pictures of big brother Brayden looking at a picture of his new baby brother or sister!

Our Bond

It has been a little over a month since I started my new adventure as a stay at home mom/photographer.  Most of the past month has been spent getting adjusted to our new schedule, tweaking things here and there, and finding what works best for our family.  However, along the way something has happened that I wasn’t even expecting.

There have been many ups and downs over the past month.  While I love every second of being home, I will also be the first to admit that this is not easy!  Through all the ups and downs, the bond between Brayden and I has somehow grown even stronger than it was.  Being home with him has allowed me to see a side of him I haven’t had the chance to see.  I am able to be here for him day in and day out and am the person he turns to when he needs help.  He is growing up each and every day.  Being a part of each others days has changed our relationship in the best way possible.

My heart has been so full of love for this little boy from the moment I first laid eyes on him.  We have always had a special connection, as all mothers and sons do, but now I’m starting to see the love we have for each other evolve into something so wonderful.  This is why I have always wanted to be home with him.  The connection we are building makes every day, the good ones and bad ones, so very worth it.  I am so grateful for these days and the many more to come. ❤

Bond Between Mother and Son

Resolutions.  We’ve all made them and we’ve probably all broken them at some point.  This year, instead of the typical “eat healthy and lose 20 pounds” type of resolutions, I decided to switch things up a bit.  As you all know from my previous blog post about baby steps, a lot has changed for me both personally and with my business starting in 2015.  I decided to take a step back and look at my life and who I am as a person, and came up with some life resolutions for 2015.  These are things I want to strive towards, things I need to keep in my head as I move forward through the year.

1. Be Accountable.
I am going to hold myself accountable for my goals, for my to-do lists, for my life in general.  It’s human nature to blame everything else when things aren’t going as planned, but in the end we are each responsible for our own outcomes.  I plan to hold myself accountable not only for my failures but for my successes as well!

2. Be Present.
In a world full of technology, this one can be tough sometimes.  I want to be present both in my own life and that of my husband and son.  I want to put down the phone and step away from the computer every once in a while and really live life with them.

3. Sparkle!
We were all born to sparkle! I want to add more sparkle to my life, both figuratively and literally. I want to start each day with a smile on my face and a positive attitude.  I want to make an effort to feel good about myself!

4. Take More Photos.
This one might sound silly since I am a photographer, but it’s funny how when you do something for a living, you find yourself doing a lot less of it for fun.  I want to start taking more photos in between all of my clients sessions.  I want to take more photos of my family and our everyday adventures. I want to set up more photo shoots that are just for fun.  I want to be sure to remind myself why I do what I do and love it so much!

So those are the four resolutions I made for myself this year!  I wrote them up on my dry erase board next to my desk as a constant reminder.  I hope they will help inspire you to create your own life resolutions.  Are there any changes in your life that sparked you to make a set of resolutions for the new year?  Leave a comment, with some of your 2015 resolutions.  I’d love to hear them! xo

Baby Steps

It has finally hit me how much has changed.  For the past two weeks we’ve been happily basking in the glow of the holiday break, visiting family and friends, being lazy, eating way too much, and just enjoying each other.  Until I woke up this Monday morning, probably the worst Monday of the year as most people are coming off of their holiday vacations, and it occurred to me that I have nowhere to be.

You see, three weeks ago, before the holiday break, was my last week at my office job.  I took a big, scary step.  One that I have been wanting to take for so long but never had the guts to do it.  Life has led us down a path we weren’t expecting and the result was me needing to be home with my son.  Which also means me not being able to work full-time anymore.  I took this as a big giant sign telling me, “Now’s the time! This is your chance to pursue your dreams!”.

I’m listening to fate.  Following my dreams.  The first giant step is over and done with, and now I’m here at the start of 2015 ready to work long and hard to get to where I want to be.  I won’t lie to you, I’m terrified.  When I woke up this morning and realized I was my own boss, my “to-do” list was miles long and my calendar was getting full, I had a tiny panic attack.  But then I remembered some words of encouragement I had read the night before from my wonderful mentor, Ashley Poisella of Ashley Therese Photography.  “Don’t let the feeling of having a lot to do cause inaction, but take baby steps each day and know that you can do this!”  This one simple thought is going to be my mantra for every time I feel overwhelmed.  Baby steps.  Lots and lots of baby steps that will mark my path to success.  In 2015 I’m ready to take all the baby steps necessary to get me to where I want to be, the owner of a successful and thriving wedding photography business.

Here’s to a wonderful, happy, healthy, successful and most importantly, FUN 2015!

What if I fall? What if you fly?
